Nighttime bokeh images create a novel, relaxed mood. They look futuristic, a little bit cyberpunk, and still serene.
The light for every one of these shined through a lens that is about fifty years old. It was high quality for its time and produces a visually pleasing effect. The coatings age too, and this seems to produce a pleasing palette.
To make these photographs, I spent hours walking around urban environs and looking at lights through the camera. It is hard to predict what will happen with the blur of a wide aperture at different focus settings. So every shot is a little surprise.
I recently used some of these bokeh images in a post about re-learning to see. Because they are such singular experiment in seeing, they seemed like a good choice.
Making galleries on the site is high on my to-do list, and since I started sorting through my better bokeh photographs to do that, it seems like a great place to start.
