It’s the New Year. And I’m starting something that I’ve wanted to do since I was about 14. I’m doing fine art photography… seriously!
For some reason, I never thought I could. I researched. I talked to other photographers. I sold pictures in a couple of galleries and an art show. I won some competitions, but somehow it just did not seem like a real job. Other times odds seemed so overwhelming. It seemed like the last step or two were just impossible.
I tried to push through, but the harder I pushed myself, the more stuck I became. Now, I’m getting unstuck.
If 2020 shows us anything though, it’s that the safe way isn’t always safe, and if you have something that you think you should be working on, time is short. Best to get started now.
Will it work? What exactly will I do? I’m still figuring those things out. I’m giving myself this year to make a go of it.
I still have so much to learn that it is possible I will find out I was right. Publicly. Right here, and on the associated social media channels. But if I do, I will have the peace of mind that comes from knowing that I made my best effort with the resources and time I had.
Meanwhile, it just feels so good to be doing this, and I want to find out how it can all work.
I also post fine art photography (or square versions of it) on Instagram (@thetollart) and probably slightly better-proportioned versions of it on Twitter (@thetollart). Drop me a comment or follow me there for more images.
